A bi-monthly, Orthodox art zine.

We are a small, not-for-profit collective of Orthodox artists with a mission to create and share beauty through and to community. The zine is a curation of drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, poetry and creative writing, and historical works of art compiled together and distributed bi-monthly.

Nitypos- the pattern.

You decorated our souls, o Moses the prophet, by the honour of the tabernacle which you have adorned.

The zine takes the name typos, Greek for pattern. It is used for when something takes the form or an imprint of something else. The life of Christ, the person of Christ, becomes a pattern we enflesh and see in the saints, the beautiful, and are called to find in ourselves.

In the Coptic Midnight Psalmody, the word for ‘pattern’ appears in the context of the tabernacle. The pattern is a divine inspiration for man to become the dwelling or city of God. In scripture, the word appears to describe the wounds of the Saviour (the ‘mark’ or ‘imprint’), it is a word applied to both image and life.

“Is not love the origin of all creation?

Nothing is more gentle than love, nothing stronger, nothing higher, nothing larger, nothing more pleasant, nothing more complete, nothing better — in heaven or on earth — because love is born of God and cannot rest other than in God, above all living beings.”

— HENRI MATISSE, ON ART, 1978
